Two books that are worth reading given the day, which play off each other. The first is “Half the Sky” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, which highlights the maltreatment of women around the globe. The second is called “A Call to Action,” by former President Jimmy Carter, which focuses on the maltreatment of women in the US.
Treating women with equal rights and opportunities is the right thing to do, but it is also the economically best thing to do. A region or country that treats women like chattel, is competing in a world with only half of its assets.
